Drug-related crimes are a relatively big problem in the Peoria area. Recently, a 32-year-old man was arrested and charged with several drug crimes that have both state and federal consequences. This individual stands to lose a lot if convicted. An experienced criminal defense attorney will be able to help him achieve the best outcome possible for his circumstances.

According to a local news report, on Feb. 17., authorities arrested the accused, who happened to have a warrant out for his arrest for an unrelated drug case. They found on his person just over 18 grams of cocaine and a large bag of marijuana. A search warrant was obtained for the house he was at when arrested. In the home authorities claim to have found a weapon, marijuana, cocaine, a large sum of money and drug paraphernalia.

The accused supposedly refused to talk to authorities. He also denied living at the home that was searched. As of the latest report, this individual is charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. This is considered a felony level office which is punishable by up to 40 years in prison.

The accused in this case and other Peoria residents who find themselves in similar situations may have several defense options available in order to fight the charges filed against them. Cases involving drug crimes are not easy to tackle, but it does not mean that it is impossible to have charges dismissed or reduced and consequences minimized. An experienced criminal defense attorney can review the facts of this man’s case, question any evidence offered and assist the accused in choosing a legal course that will best serve his interests.
